TRANSCENDING INTO A PhD SCHOLAR

The Wellness Centre at IIT Roorkee organized a program on August 9, 2023, titled “Transcending into a PhD Scholar” with the aim of empowering newly joined PhD students. The program was organized to orient the new PhD scholars about requirements and expectations of PhD program which majority scholars find difficult to adjust to as they come from courses where they have seen defined syllabus and courses. Attended by 200 students, it featured a panel discussion with six esteemed faculty members from diverse departments. The program addressed several key aspects of the PhD journey, including debunking common myths about PhD, discussing expectations, necessary skills to develop, and emphasizing the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. It also highlighted ethical characteristics and trust between scholars and supervisors as fundamental for success. The evening was concluded by senior PhD scholars who provided valuable insights from their own experiences. The discussions and practical advice shared by faculty members and senior scholars left a profound impact on the audience.

UG ORIENTATION 

On August 5, 2023, IIT Roorkee’s Wellness Centre hosted an Orientation Program for our first year UG students, with the goal of introducing them to the institute’s culture and campus life. The event commenced with the IIT Roorkee Kulgeet and a warm welcome from Prof. Mukesh K. Barua, the Dean of Students’ Welfare. Distinguished faculty members covered various topics, including academic support, campus culture, technological resources, diversity, entrepreneurship, scholarships, and cultural activities. The program also featured a short film celebrating IIT Roorkee’s rich history. Prof. Avlokita Agarwal, Associate Dean of Students’ Welfare introduced the Wellness Centre and its support services, stressing the importance of mental health. All the students also took a pledge against the use of drugs and other substances. The students then visited different facilities on campus. The tour was led by senior students of IIT Roorkee. The event concluded with a demo football match which saw enthusiastic participation from UG 1st year students. The event, attended by 1300+ students was successful in ensuring a seamless transition into their new academic journey!

PARENTS ORIENTATION

The Wellness Centre at IIT Roorkee recently organized a fantastic sensitization program for all the parents of our newly joined UG students on 2nd August,2023. The program brought together distinguished faculty members, counselor and guest speaker from AIIMS, Rishikesh, striving to address the common student concerns and offered effective strategies for parents to support their children during the college transition. The parents were also informed about the various recreational resources and services offered by the institute. The event was a huge success, providing the parents with a platform to address their doubts and concerns. Kudos to the Wellness Centre for their efforts in organizing this insightful program and for their commitment to promoting the well-being of students at IIT Roorkee!

PG-PHD ORIENTATION

The Wellness Centre at IIT Roorkee, is thrilled to share the success in hosting the PG-PHD orientation program at IIT ROORKEE on July 15, 2023! Through this event it aimed to ensure a smooth transition for our new PG-PhD students into the IIT Roorkee family, setting the stage for a successful academic journey. During this engaging event, the students were equipped with everything they need for both their professional and personal lives here, including academic support, insights into campus culture, access to technology, diversity appreciation, entrepreneurship opportunities, scholarships, cultural activities, and wellness resources. All the students were welcomed to IIT Roorkee, with a commitment to create an environment of excellence, growth, and success.

The Wellness Centre organized an interactive and motivational session featuring two distinguished alumni of IIT Roorkee, Mr. Devendra Singh and Mr. Mritunjay Bhargav. The session aimed to assist students in managing the challenges of the placement season amidst the slump in the software industry, including hiring freezes and layoffs.

Mr. Devendra Singh, a member of the Class of 2001 and currently serving as the Deputy General Manager at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, shared his valuable insights and experiences during the session. Mr. Mritunjay Bhargav, a recent graduate from the Class of 2020 and currently working as a Technology Geoscientist at Schlumberger, also provided his perspective on navigating the difficult times. The alumni speakers shared their personal journeys, highlighting strategies for resilience, adaptability, and staying motivated in the face of adversity. The event received positive feedback from the students, who found the session inspiring and beneficial.

Developing the Winning Attitude

The Wellness Centre organized an interactive and motivational session on “Developing the Winning Attitude” to assist students in managing placement stress and performing well in challenging situations. The session was conducted by Mr. Anand Mushi, a renowned life coach in India with over 20 years of experience. Mr. Mushi shared practical tips and proven methods to overcome the fear of failure, manage stress, and develop self-confidence, making the session engaging and interactive.
The session provided valuable insights and strategies to cultivate a winning attitude and maintain a positive outlook on life’s issues. Students actively participated, asking questions and seeking guidance from Mr. Mushi. The event’s success was evident in the feedback received from the students, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain a wise perspective and enhance their mental well-being.

Director Visit to Wellness Centre

Prof. K. K. Pant, the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, paid a visit to the Wellness Centre. He expressed his satisfaction upon witnessing the range of services available at the center. Prof. Pant commended the Wellness team for their dedication and support in providing excellent mental health care services to the IIT-R community. The visit included the presence of distinguished individuals such as Prof. Barua, Prof. Kiran, Prof. Iqbal, and the institute Psychiatrist, along with all the expert Clinical Psychologists from the center. Additionally, the General Secretary Mr. Riddham Sadana of the Wellness team and other devoted student volunteers were also present during the visit.

Mentor Workshop

The Student Mentorship Program at IIT Roorkee, in collaboration with the Wellness Centre, successfully organized a Mentors Workshop. The workshop aimed to provide valuable insights and guidance to students by focusing on the importance of mentorship. Mr. A. Athili, an Institute Counsellor and Clinical Psychologist, served as the expert for the event. He highlighted the early signs that should be considered before the development of psychological issues, covering topics related to stress, anxiety, and depression. Mr. Akash Vishwakarma, also an Institute Counsellor and Clinical Psychologist, emphasized the development of mentor-mentee relationships, the responsibilities involved, and the necessary skills to fulfill their purpose. The coordination of the workshop was led by Mr. Prajjawal Sahu, Chief Secretary of the Student Mentorship Program. The event was highly praised for its excellent organization and provided valuable knowledge to participants, promoting positive reinforcement and engagement in life.

World Mental Health Day Talks

Wellness Center organized the twin interactive sessions, namely, “Wings of Hope” by Mr Navin Gulia, an Ex-Army Officer, Author, and World Record Holder in adventure sports and “Live Bold and Bloom” by Mr Prakhar Gupta, a famous Youtuber, Author and Podcaster.

Mr Gulia shared his valuable life experiences with us, inspiring us to lead a better world filled with hope and dreams. Mr Gupta’s talk was about the need to be fearless and bold while expressing one’s ideas in life. The two sessions produced profound impressions on all of us with their inspirational talks. The evening received an overwhelming participation of 150+ from IITR Junta.

Mhizqiz

The Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee, organized a fun game of Tambola, Mhizqiz, as a part of various events to recognize World Mental Health Month. There was more to the game than just calling out numbers. The game had a twist; players must slice numbers, make patterns, and connect the dots between the questions and the corresponding numbers. The IITR junta took part in the entertaining game in large numbers. Over 70 students participated in the event.

Productive mind training

“The key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

The human mind has limitless potential, and to boost productivity and enhance performance Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee, hosted a seminar titled Productive Mind Training – Shaping your Mental Muscle, on 9th October 2022 by the expert speaker Dr. Shah Tarfarosh, Oxford Trained Registrar Psychiatrist and the Teaching fellow at the University of Oxford, MBBS (PGC Cambridge), MRCPsych (London). The session truly helped the audience unleash some of the secrets for productively training their minds.

Digital Detox

Keeping in mind the rising addiction to social media, games, and porn in society, especially among teenagers, Wellness Centre organized a seminar on “Digital Detox”. Understanding the importance of real human interactions and not just keeping up with people online is necessary. Digital Detoxing is voluntarily refraining from various digital devices like mobile phones, computers and social media platforms.

The speaker of the evening was Prof. Manoj Kumar Sharma, a consultant Clinical Psychologist at Shut Clinic, NIMHANS.

Meme Maniac

With the Internet constantly flashing before our eyes and memes continuously playing on our devices, Team Wellness organized the entertaining quiz Meme Maniac based on the Internet’s meme culture to bring out the meme superstar in the IITR junta. This event was planned as a follow-up to the 2022 World Mental Health Month activities. Over 100 students participated in the fun quiz. Prizes worth 8K were awarded to the winners.

Yaaron ki Mehfil

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee, organized an open mic event, “Yaaron Ki Mehfil,” in which participants could express themselves through art forms such as 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙-𝙪𝙥𝙨, 𝙥𝙤𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙮, 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙪𝙚, etc. The Wellness Centre organized this for the students of IITR as a part of the World Mental Health Month celebration. The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues worldwide and to mobilize efforts to support mental health.

The event saw wholesome engagements, which created an indelible “Mehfil.” The prizes for the winners of the event were worth 8K.

Creating hope through action

On the 175th anniversary of IIT Roorkee, Wellness Centre conducted a series of events which also marked the celebration of World Mental Health month 2022.

The team conducted a seminar on  “Creating hope through action” on World Suicide Prevention Day. The speaker, Prof. Archana Shukla, emphasized how to prevent Suicide among people and gave the formula of ABCD(Ask, Be there, Stay connected, Decrease means of self-harm). Institute Psychiatrist and Senior Medical Officer IIT Roorkee Dr. Jeetinder Singh and Institute Counselors were also present.

Effective session held on Ways of balancing your research and married life:

Balance is a feeling derived from completeness; it is a sense of harmony. It is essential to maintain quality of life and work.

In collaboration with Khosla International House, Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee organized a seminar on “Ways of balancing your research and married life” for research scholars. Speakers for the session were Dr. Shikha Jain and Mr. Ashfaq Ahmad, respectively, who spoke about maintaining a healthy balance between married life and research. The talk focused on conscious decision-making and enhancing communication styles, emphasizing how a lack of communication between couples can lead to conflicts. The session received healthy participation from scholars. Towards the end of the seminar, a Q&A session was held to address their respective questions.

Campus seminar on work-life balance and mental wellness:

Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee, organized a “Mental Health and Work-Life Balance” seminar on the Saharanpur Campus.

The speakers, Dr. Akmal Shah and Ms. Shivani Tewari, focused on how to identify the factors and warning signs of work-life imbalance. They also provided insight into stress management and the challenges associated with an unhealthy work-life balance. Participants’ queries were addressed in the Q&A session at the end of the seminar.

Orientation Session for all-new Masters and PhD students:

Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee successfully conducted an orientation session for all-new Masters and Ph.D. students to introduce them to the R-Land culture. The orientation program also familiarised students with the cultural and technical groups withinside the campus and the opportunities available for students of IIT Roorkee.

Discussion on Mental Health and Work-Life Balance for PhD scholars:

All stress, anxiety, and depression are caused when we ignore our identity and start living to please others.”

In collaboration with Azad Bhawan, Wellness center IIT Roorkee organized a “Mental Health & Work-Life Balance” seminar for Ph.D. scholars. Early detection can be helpful, knowing that research burnouts are common in a Ph.D. student’s life. The speaker Dr. Akmal Shah emphasized how to handle stress and other challenges brought on by a dysfunctional work-life balance. In the end, enthusiastic participants’ questions were answered by the respective panel of speakers.

Expert Talk: The Secret of Happy Relationship

Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee, organized an expert talk on “The Secret of Happy Relationship: A Balance Between Personal and Professional Life” in hybrid mode ( Online & Offline ). The offline event was witnessed at the Saharanpur.

The speaker, Dr. Lalit Kumar Singh, stressed the need for work-life balance and reminded the appreciative audience of the need for self-awareness and emotional dysregulation in daily life. He also provided the audience with tactics and ideas for improving themselves and advocated for “Mind the gap and find the gap” in a professional environment.

At the end of the talk, Dr. Akmal Shah (Clinical Psychologist), Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee, gave a vote of thanks.

Distribution of Physical/Hearing Aids to students of People with Disabilities:

“Having the right equipment and aids can be crucial to independent living and study.”

With the consistent belief that helping others is the key to happiness, the Wellness Center, IIT Roorkee expanded its services by giving students of people with disabilities access to hearing and physical aids and “NOAH link Wireless” to Audiology and Speech therapists at IIT Roorkee.

Artspire’ 2022 – Drawing and Painting Event

Wellness centre, IIT Roorkee, organised the ARTSPIRE drawing extravaganza on 19th March 2022. This event aimed to extract your thoughts and emotions over a canvas to stimulate your mind and imagination. The response was overwhelming, and the students exhibited their thoughts and skills with their astounding art pieces.

Intro Venture: An Introductory Talk of Team Wellness

Wellness Centre conducted “Intro Venture” on 25 January, an introductory talk about the roles and initiatives and the impact it has had in recent years. Apart from introducing Team Wellness, the evening was accentuated with interactive games: “Guess the personality” and “Interpret the picture“. Over 120 students from UG, PG and PhD programmes attended the talk. Many of them expressed their views on mental health and virtually connected with the Team members. A Case Study competition was announced at the end, winners of which would be directly interviewed for recruitments.

Meet and Greet: A freewheeling town hall with IITR junta

Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee conducted “𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭”, an interactive meetup of the IITR Junta with Team Wellness as the first offline event after the campus return. DOSW Prof. M K Barua and ADOSW Prof. Kiran Ambatipudi, our in-house Counsellors and Wellness wardens, were onboard. To start with, Prof. M K Barua and Prof. Kiran addressed the attendees. The evening was highlighted by presentations on the journey of Team Wellness and our success in counselling services. The panel’s interaction with the students was incredible, followed by a QnA session. A prize distribution ceremony was held with Prof. M K Barua handing over the prizes to the World Mental health quiz and Express to Inspire art event winners. Over 80 students attended the exuberant meeting.

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee organised a webinar on the “𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬”, with 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡, renowned psychiatrist as the speaker. He addressed several common misconceptions we hear every day, living in a society still learning to acknowledge the existence and consequences of mental health issues. The participants gained immense knowledge from Dr Jeetinder as he burst all those myths. Over 50 students attended the session.

Workshop on deconstructing stressors from the mental wellbeing perspective

Wellness centre, IIT Roorkee, organized a workshop titled “A conversation deconstructing stressors from the mental wellbeing perspective.” with Mr. Babu Mathew as our speaker. Even high grades and CGPA may seem meaningless if one is not well from within and feels stressed out in life; thus, we must learn how to deconstruct the stressors that shadow our personality and lifestyle. (SEL) covers the topic of having good social relationships and empathetic peer networks that may help us realize stressors’ impact on our nature.

Mr. Babu Mathew discussed the topics deeply and engaged everyone within the conversation; he described the significance of the aspects involved and talked about the different ways adolescents and children generally try coping up with the stress and situations, the flaws they commit, and a positive social approach towards them as a part of SEL. Over 60 students attended the workshop.

Express to Inspire Art Competition

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee organized an Art Competition, “Express To Inspire” for the students of IITR as a part of World Mental Health day celebration. World Mental Health Day is celebrated around the globe to raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilize efforts in support of the mental health of its citizens. This day embarks upon an opportunity for everyone working on mental health issues to talk about their work and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

The event received various submissions in the video, audio and written formats from many students in drawings, paintings, crafts, poems, stories, songs, dance, articles, drama and much more. Winners of the event were awarded prizes worth Rs 10,000 at “Meet and Greet” on 12th November.

Interactive session with Mr Ravi Kumar Dahiya on World Mental Health Day 2021

“What Mental health needs is more sunlight, more Candour and more unashamed conversation.”

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee, hosted an interactive session with Tokyo Olympics 2020 Silver medalist Ravi Kumar Dahiya to commemorate World Mental Health Day. A brief over the achievements and life history of Mr Dahiya was presented to have the students learn from his life struggles and challenges, which he overcame with a firm mental resolve.

Mr. Dahiya answered the questioning minds of students concerning how we should approach the challenges life throws at us and not get bemused from our path to achieving our goals in life, no matter how big they could be. He also shared his experience of having dealt with issues like depression and anxiety. He emphasized that we should always be able to take risks for new things in life, and nurturing our mental health can help us do that.

Quiz on Mental Health and Adlerian Psychology

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee organized a quiz competition titled “𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲” on 8th October. Around the Globe, October is celebrated as depression and mental health awareness month. These are the topics that are often not discussed in society. Yet, mental health disorders affect millions of people worldwide. As a matter of fact, the Global Burden of Disease study estimated that nearly 200 million people in India have experienced a mental disorder, nearly half of whom suffer from depressive or anxiety disorders.

About 150 students from IIT Roorkee participated in the quiz, of which 7 winners were announced in the interactive session held by the Wellness Centre on 10th October. Prizes Worth ₹𝟒,𝟎𝟎𝟎 were awarded to the top performers on 12th November. Winners were bestowed with the books and mementoes on 12th November by the Wellness team.

Webinar on ‘Meaning of Life’ on World Suicide Prevention Day

Wellness Centre, IIT Roorkee organized a webinar 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞, with 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐢 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐫 as the guest speaker. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19-year-olds. These facts are enough to discern the significance and impact of preventing suicides. World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10 September, with the sole aim of a worldwide commitment towards the prevention of suicides.

Prof. Bhatnagar discussed several exciting aspects related to ‘Life’, ‘Suicide’, ‘Anxiety’, ‘Depression’ using acronyms defined by herself. Without any visual presentations, she kept all the participants engaged through her warm words and interesting analogies. She also shared real-life stories of depression and how people paved their way forward in life by overcoming depression. Over 50 students attended the webinar.

Interactive Talk on International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking

In our modern society, youngsters often feel stressed and frustrated. Some of them consume drugs illegally, marking it as a symbol of relaxation to deal with it. Little do they know, they end up addicted to it, leading to mental and physical disorders, such as Seizures, strokes, lung diseases, brain damage, and improper decision-making.  Thus, on the occasion of International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee conducted a Webinar to light up this critical topic. We all were glad that our day’s speaker, Mr Subimal Banerjee, currently the project coordinator at a De-addiction centre named Society for Promotion of Youth & Masses(SPYM), enlightened us on the subject.

Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee posted a total of four testimonials of past drug addicts on subsequent days. Briefly, the four testimonials were:

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 Mr Asheesh shared his dreadful experience of being addicted to alcohol and other devastating habits in his graduation days and how he redeemed.

𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐅𝐀 Mr Piyush discussed how he recovered and brought his life on track even after being addicted to drugs and smoking at 15.

Webinar on Time management and handling procrastination

Intending to help the IITR Junta gaining command over their clocks, Wellness Centre, in collaboration with 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐃𝐨𝐬𝐭, conducted a webinar on “Time management and handling procrastination”.

The speaker Ms Archita Sobti had expertise in clinical psychology and owes 8+ years of experience. She revealed to us how she contrives to get all her stuff done within time. The webinar received healthy participation from students, who asked excellent questions from her, to which she responded brilliantly.

Youth wellness during a pandemic: Let’s talk with Expert:

Because of difficult times put forth by the covid pandemic, it was clear that the youth were distressed and faced several issues maintaining their mental wellness. Keeping in mind the same, Wellness centre IIT Roorkee organized a talk with Dr Santosh Kumar. He addressed several mental health issues concerning youth due to the prevailing situation. He also touched upon the human brain’s functionality, how our thoughts and emotions are influenced by our surroundings, and how we can get hold of them. All in all, it was an informative and interactive session.

Workshop on Meditation and Pranayama

Team Wellness IIT Roorkee conducted a workshop on “Meditation and Pranayama” by our in-house counsellor Dr Shikha Jain and Mrs Madhukriti Srivastava, Co-founder of ‘SalesMonday’ and renowned yoga and meditation instructor, with more than 300 hours of Yoga teacher training. Students and staff learned and practised pranayama techniques to heal, revitalize, and recharge both body and mind by attending the three-day sessions. They also learned mindful moves to relieve anxiety and decrease stress in these challenging times.

Barefoot Counselling Session

Team Wellness IIT Roorkee conducted a “Barefoot Counselling Session” by Dr Jini Gopinath, the Clinical Director and Chief Clinical Psychologist at Mind Matters Clinic, Bangalore, and the Director of Psychology at YourDost.com. The session aimed to aid students in dealing with the disrupted academic and personal life due to the pandemic. He expanded upon the changes students face in their mood, such as increased irritability, feeling low or more anxious, experience difficulty in sleeping, feeling exhausted more often and more than usual, or feeling harder to relax during respite periods. It was a very relaxing session and received heavy participation from students.

Recreation activities for Freshers

In collaboration with Cultural Council & Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee, Student Mentorship Program had organized a carousel of activities for the newly admitted batch of 2024 and 2025. These activities were conducted in the second half of the orientation, roughly after 3:00 pm. All the students were excited to be a part of these events. The events were hosted by their very own seniors, thus making it interactive. It marked the delightful beginning of the journey with IIT Roorkee.

Interactive session on World Mental Health Day

As a part of our World Mental Health Day celebration, Wellness Center IIT Roorkee has organized an interactive session with renowned and respected Padma Shri Anju Bobby George hosted by Mr. Abhishek Kumar.

She is India’s first and the only World Champion in Athletics IAAF World Athletics Final. She made history when she won the bronze medal in the long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics jumping 6.70 m. She was also awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2003- 2004 after her success in World Athletic Meet. She was conferred Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award in 2004.

The session started with the Welcome speech delivered by Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director IIT Roorkee, followed by Padma Shri Anju Bobby George in which she shared her journey from childhood, kind of failures she faced during this successful journey.

It ended with a simple message “Dream and dream until your dream becomes true. “

There was also a Q&A session in which students were allowed to ask any questions and queries to the speaker, which she answered perfectly.

The event received huge participation from students along with Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director IIT Roorkee, Prof. M.K Barua (Dean of Students Welfare), Prof. Kiran, (Associate Dean of Students Welfare, Student Wellness), Prof. Rachita Gulati (Faculty Advisor NSS IITR), Institute Counselors.

“Time Management is not about having all of those things done; it’s about having enough time for what matters most to you.” Wellness Centre,IIT Roorkee and NSS IIT Roorkee conducted a webinar on- ‘𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊: 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.’ The webiner was delivered by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫 who has extensive clinical, teaching, training & research experience in the field for over 20 years. The event received positive response and students were greatly benefited from this interaction.

Share Your Journey Regarding mental health:

Today’s lifestyle puts a lot of stress and pressure on our minds and in such a situation problems with mental health are something which most of us have experienced. But we are not always able to talk about it because of the social stigma.

Struggling in silence is not a solution and many researches have shown the benefits of conversation about your journeys of pain, struggle, victory, failures, and continued endeavours towards mental health. Therefore, Wellness Centre and NSS IIT Roorkee came up with a platform to Share your journey . Students were encouraged to share their experiences related to mental health and let it all flow. The stories were shared on our social media platforms for others to connect to it.

Quiz on Mental Health Awareness:

Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee and NSS IIT Roorkee conducted another short quiz, this time on the topic “Mental Health Awareness”. Mental health awareness aims at bringing down the walls of stigma by sharing our experiences, stories, and truths.The quiz aimed at spreading more awareness on mental health so that everyone can have more joyous and better tomorrow.

Live webinar on Stay Fit: Maintain Mental Health:

Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee,in collaboration with NSS IIT Roorkee, conducted a webinar on ‘Stay fit: Maintaining Mental Health’ delivered by Ms. Sangeeta Param, a speaker in TEDx talks who has also represented India in International conferences on Mental Health, discussed her battle against Depression, Bipolar disorder and Borderline personality disorder. The event went very successful and was really worth lending an ear to!

Wellness Centre IIT Roorkee, again collaborated with NSS IIT Roorkee to conduct a short 10 minute quiz on “Suicide Prevention and awareness”. Suicide is tremendously hard to talk about. The ongoing pandemic has created a world environment that is harsh and seriously detrimental for mental health, making this the most imperative time to focus on such an important topic. The quiz recieved heavy participation from the students.

Wellness Centre together with NSS organised a quiz on Psychological First Aids. This event was planned to motivate and spread awareness psychological First Aids and its importance after serious and unprepared traumas in life of any individual. In this !0 minute long quiz MCQs were asked and prizes worth Rs 3000 were awarded.
